Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Factcheck Realtime ("we", "us", "the app") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@factcheckrealtimeapp.com.
1. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is never stored in plain text — we store only a one-way bcrypt hash, which cannot be reversed to reveal your original password.
Fact-check content
When you submit a claim, headline, or URL to fact-check, we store the submitted content, the resulting AI verdict, confidence score, explanation, and cited sources associated with your account so you can view your history. If you submit a URL, we fetch the public content of that URL to provide context to the fact-checking model.
Usage information
We record how many fact-checks you have used each day (to enforce the free-tier limit) and basic operational logs including IP address and request timestamps, retained only for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
Subscription information
If you subscribe to Factcheck Realtime Pro, we store your Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, subscription status, and current billing period end date. We never see or store your credit card information — all payment details are handled directly by Stripe.
Password-reset codes
If you request a password reset, we temporarily store a one-way hash of the 6-digit code we email to you, along with the code's 15-minute expiry. These records are deleted immediately after successful use or expiry.
2. Information we do not collect
- Your name, phone number, or physical address
- Your location (GPS or otherwise)
- Your contacts, calendar, camera, microphone, or photos
- Your device's advertising ID
- Analytics on how you scroll, tap, or move inside the app
3. How we use your information
- To operate the fact-checking service (submitting your content to our AI provider and returning the verdict)
- To let you log in, reset your password, and view your history
- To process subscription payments and grant Pro access
- To send transactional emails (password reset codes only — we do not send marketing emails)
- To enforce free-tier limits and prevent abuse
We never use your information for advertising and we do not sell your data to anyone. Ever.
4. Third-party services we share information with
To provide the service, we share the minimum-necessary data with the following processors:
- Google (Gemini AI) — receives the text or URL content you submit for fact-checking (via our AI proxy). Not tied to your email or account identifier.
- Stripe — receives your email address and a Factcheck Realtime user ID when you purchase a subscription. Handles all payment card details directly. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Resend (email delivery, via Emergent) — receives your email address and the password-reset email body when we send you a reset code.
- MongoDB Atlas — hosts our encrypted database.
5. Data retention
We keep your account, fact-check history, and subscription information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete my account, which permanently removes your email, fact-check history, subscription records, and any pending password reset codes.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the information we hold about you (email support@factcheckrealtimeapp.com and we'll respond within 30 days)
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and all associated data (in-app, one tap, no questions asked)
- Cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Manage subscription
- Object to our processing of your data — you can stop using the app at any time
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise any of these, contact support@factcheckrealtimeapp.com.
7. Children
Factcheck Realtime is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it immediately.
8. Security
We use industry-standard security practices: TLS encryption for all data in transit, bcrypt-hashed passwords, JWT-based session tokens, signature-verified payment webhooks, and role-based access controls. No system is 100% secure, but we do our best.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, if the change is significant, notify you by email or in-app before it takes effect.
